The Digital Divide Initiative
Building Bridges to Opportunity
Overview of the Digital Divide Initiative (DDI)
The ultimate goal is that all people, especially those from underserved populations, become technologically literate.

This technological literacy or competence to use technology will create opportunities for people in accessing information, education, employment, and civic and community engagement. Technology literacy will also prepare young people to live and work in an increasingly digital world.

Objectives of the Digital Divide Initiative
  • To provide technology access and education to underserved communities
  • To create opportunities for community members to continue developing technology knowledge and skills such as internet safety, desktop publishing and financial literacy
  • To utilize, promote and evaluate technology tools and programs, including operating as a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher (MRR), a Computers For Youth Affiliate and promoting IBM and other sponsor-donated tools
  • To develop, implement and disseminate program curricula designed to enhance program activities at community organizations
  • To mobilize volunteer energy of technical specialists and other skilled volunteers to support DDI and partner organizations
  • To offer computer workshop participants a service learning opportunity to earn their computer through volunteer work that involves learning technical skills
